FAQs
How much does it cost?
Absolutely nothing! (The web app launches by downloading approx 50MB of data however, so please ensure you are either connected to WiFi or have appropriate data allowance.)
When does it begin?
You'll be able to find the codes hidden around Basingstoke for the duration of the festival, June 21 to July 7.
What do I need to take part?
The experience requires a smartphone to download the web app to, and a pair of headphones to listen with as you find stories.
How long does it last? When can I do it?
It takes a leisurely few hours to find and listen to all ten stories. It's entirely up to you whether you do that in one go, or spread the experience across the course of the festival. Do bear in mind that some of the codes will be placed in cafes and shops, so will only be accessible during their opening hours.
Is there an order to the stories?
No. We recommend starting with First Matter - which comes ready to listen to on the web app without a code - but everything after can be in any order. Just play them as you find them!
What if I have access requirements? Or I don't have a smartphone? Or can't get to Basingstoke?
We'd like New Myths to be experienced by absolutely everyone. As such, we've come up with a whole range of ways to make it accessible for, we think, just about anyone. If the experience as described isn't going to work for you, drop us an email and we'll let you know how we can help.
Is it appropriate for children?
Although it was designed for a grown-up audience, there's no bad language or unsuitable content in any of the stories. It's a self-guided experience though, so we'd strongly advise accompanying children throughout.
I'm coming to Basingstoke especially for New Myths. What else should I see/do while I'm here?
As well as dropping into the locations hosting our stories (which just happen to be some of our favourite places in the town), this year's programme for the Basingstoke Festival is a cracker, with plenty on every day.
Who made this?

New Myths was made possible with the generous support of Basingstoke Festival and Arts Council England.
(We're also indebted to the beautiful people of West Lincoln, Ontario. But that's a story for another time.)
