Terms and conditions of submission
Please read all terms and conditions carefully before submitting an story. Submission of an entry is taken as acceptance of all the terms and conditions.
1. Eligibility
1.1 This submission platform is for authors aged 16 years or over at the time of submission. Authors must submit their own story unless they are below this age, in which instance they must have a parent/guardian submit on their behalf with a note expressing their consent within the 'Your Story' submission field.
1.2 The submitted story must not have been previously published or broadcast.
2. Submission
2.1 Stories may only be submitted via the specific submission form on the New Mythologies of Basing Stoche website. Submissions in any other form will not be accepted.
2.2 Stories must be submitted by midnight on August 31st 2020. Stories submitted after this time will not be published. Online submission will be acknowledged automatically by an on-screen message.
2.3 If authors have emailed the organisers and are waiting for a response, the submission deadline still stands. Unless the organisers have explicitly expressed otherwise, all authors must submit stories before the deadline in order to be considered for inclusion on the website and book.
2.4 Stories must be submitted with the author’s consent.
2.5 All fields on the submission form must be completed to be valid.
2.6 The short story submitted must be a separate, standalone and original story and not a chapter of a book or ongoing work.
2.7 Authors agree that the organisers may publish the story on their website in perpetuity.
2.8 Incomplete submission forms and short stories not submitted in accordance with these terms and conditions will not be considered.
2.9 By submitting a story the author agrees that the organisers may at their sole discretion edit, adapt, abridge or translate the story for any purpose deemed appropriate by the organisers.
3. The short story
3.1 The story must not exceed 2,000 words. Please note: 2,000 is the maximum word count but not a specific target.
3.2 The story must be based on the theme of a 'new mythology' for the town of Basingstoke.
3.3 The name of the author must not appear anywhere within the story.
3.4 The story must not contain defamatory, obscene or offensive material. This shall be determined by organisers, and no correspondence will be entered into regarding this decision.
3.5 Any ineligible, illegible, obscene or fraudulent submissions will be not be considered.
3.6 The story must be suitable to be published online for audiences of all ages.
3.7 Submissions must be an original piece of fiction and not an account of real events – either historical or current. If authors are unclear, they may email the organisers by clicking here. The author warrants that they have not used material or depicted events that actually took place or used the personal details of any living persons in the story. As the stories will be published it is important that authors do not include any personal details about themselves. The author must not include their name in the title or body of the story; stories which do contain this information will not be considered for publishing.
3.8 All entries must be the original work of the person submitting (unless being submitted by a parent/guardian as per 1.1) and must not infringe the rights of any other party. The organisers accept no responsibility if these conditions are ignored and the author agrees to indemnify the organisers against any claim by any third party from any breach of these conditions.
4. Publishing
4.1 Stories may be published on the New Mythologies of Basing Stoche website at any time after submission, pending approval by the organisers.
4.2 The organisers cannot accept responsibility for liability arising from submission. To the fullest extent permissable by law, the organisers exclude liability for all loss, damage or claim arising as a result of the participant's submission.
4.3 Authors retain the copyright in their submission, but grant to the organisers a perpetual non-exclusive royalty-free licence to publish, broadcast (across all media) and post the entry online and on any other platforms yet to be envisaged.
4.4 The publishing of stories is entirely at discretion of the organisers, and no correspondence shall be entered into regarding these decisions.
5. Administration
5.1 Authors must provide their name and email address on their online form entry.
5.2 By submitting through the online form, the author consents to their name and the title of their story being published on the New Mythologies of Basing Stoche website and in the subsequent published book if selected.
5.3 The organisers will only process the personal data provided to administer the online platform and New Mythologies of Basing Stoche book. Personal details will not be passed on to third parties.
5.4 The organisers reserve the right to refuse any submission for any reason at their absolute discretion, and reserve the right to vary these Terms and Conditions, and alter the timeline, as may be deemed necessary.
5.5 The organisers reserve the right to close the submission platform at any stage if deemed necessary at their sole discretion.
5.6 By submitting through the online platform, authors grant the organisers all necessary and relevant licenses and permissions in relation to the publication of their stories. Authors also agree to the organisers' use of their name in relation to publicity material.
5.7 Authors will be deemed to have accepted these terms and conditions and to have agreed to be bound by them when submitting through the online platform. The organisers may at their sole discretion choose for any reason to not publish the author's story, or to remove it from the website.
5.8 The organisers reserve the right to amend these conditions or close the website or any part of it at any stage, if deemed necessary in their opinion, or if circumstances arise outside of their control.
